Haptic Feedback of DualSense got detailed by Devs

It seems there is great potential for immersive controls

The DualSense has been a mysterious part of the PlayStation 5 marketing. Indeed, after Sony unveiled some features of it, the curiosity of the gaming world has increased. In a recent blog post, the studio collected some ideas about what its Haptic Feedback feature feels like. In detail, this feature will allow vibrations and other movements in DualSense to adjust itself to the game. For instance, the pressure on the trigger buttons will vary whilst driving on gravel or asphalt.


According to the studio, these blog posts will present the next step in immersive gaming. Moreover, the post emphasizes the first technological demo where a woman walks on an icy surface. One of the first examples of Haptic Feedback occurs when the woman reacts to the danger. However, this occurrence isn’t the only one, from Spider-Man to Gran Turismo, the controller will use this feature in multiple situations.

Sony has gathered its partner developers together to gather some quotes about the experience. Accordingly, the developers have provided what it feels like as a gaming feature and how immersive it can get.

I think the most effective use of the adaptive trigger [in Gran Turismo 7] is for representing the operation of the antilock brake system (ABS) while braking. A typical ABS releases brake pressure intermittently while the driver applies pressure to the pedal. The adaptive trigger is suited for recreating this pedal feel, and it will allow the player to accurately feel and understand the relationship between the braking force they want and the tire’s grip (…)
